Job Description

The Network Engineer works with members of the management and IS staff to provide accurate and timely resolution of all user problems as they relate to Company computing systems, and exhibits positive and helpful service delivery toward end-users in an effort to achieve the goals and objectives of increased user satisfaction and productivity.


High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Information Systems or Computer Science from an accredited university preferred. Without a degree – Five (5) to ten (10) years progressive technology experience, with five (5) years prior experience providing tier 2 & 3 incident and problem resolution. Network administration in a corporate environment with at least 500 end users; With a BS degree – Three (3) to seven (7) years progressive technology experience, with three (3) years prior experience providing tier 2 & 3 incident and problem resolution. Network administration in a corporate environment with at least 500 end users. CCNA, CCDA or higher certification preferred. Vendor-specific Hardware and Printer certifications preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of network design and implementation for ISO layer 1 thru 4. Knowledge of IP networking and troubleshooting. Hands on experience implementing and administrating Windows Server 2000/2003 environment:

Firewalls; Cisco, HP, and Dell network switches; Cisco routers; Cisco VPN; Wireless Access Points; HP, Dell server platforms; Windows Server 2000/2003; Active Directory; Symantec Back-Up Exec software and related backup tape drive; Previous responsibility for providing customer support; Demonstrable level of competence including a thorough understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networking; A practical level of experience implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, etc; Working knowledge of common network monitoring and security utilities; Troubleshooting focused on determining hardware vs. software, hardware vs. firmware, software vs. operating system, network vs. application/systems, and patterned vs. non-repeatable problems.
