Job Description

The Collector I works under direct supervision and established guidelines as reflected in operational policies and procedures to perform various routine billing, collection and patient contact tasks within Patient Financial Services; maintains a positive working relationship with patients, staff and third parties; represents the organization in a professional manner; completes tasks in a timely and accurate manner; and complies with department and organization policies and procedures.


High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Associate’s Degree in Medical Billing preferred. One-year medical billing experience or six months of McKesson Practice Plus experience. Two years medical billing and collection experience preferred. Must be proficiently skilled in the application and use of Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet.  Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Knowledge of medical billing coding systems; ability to assess work responsibilities and prioritize, keeping supervisor apprised of status on a routine basis; keen insight in problem solving relative to collections, in general; strong verbal and written communication skills especially as they related to customer service and dealing effectively with difficult patients.
