Job Description

The Ophthalmic Assistant II assists the Ophthalmologist and Optometrists in performing a wide range of both basic and advanced Ophthalmic testing, and has a strong knowledge base for work in the eye care field. Advanced knowledge of Ocular diseases and Ocular emergencies required. Position requires advanced technical skills, and knowledge in Ophthalmology testing; frequently performs but not limited to: Fundas photographs (Disc, Macula,etc), Fluoroscein Angiograghy, Axial Eye Length and Diagnostic B-Scan echography, Pachymetry ,Visual Fields, OCT. ( Ocular Coherence Tomography),Corneal Topography, IOL calculations, Applanation tonometry, and occasionally assists in Laser procedures. In addition to advanced Ophthalmic testing, position requires ability to perform Basic pre-exam testing: Basic Vision testing, Lensometry, Auto Refraction, Tonopen, B.A.T. Color Test. Responsible to clean, maintain, and report equipment failures / malfunctions that need repair to Site Administrator or Nurse Manager/Nurse supervisor.

 

Qualifications

High School Diploma and completion of Ophthalmic Assistant Certification. Additional education/training in various ophthalmic testing preferred. Two year’s experience working as an Ophthalmic Assistant. Three year’s experience preferred. Current CPR Certificate (American Heart Association) and Current Ophthalmic Assistant Certification. Non-Certified candidates will be considered, but must obtain certification within 90 days of hire date. Must be proficiently skilled in the application and use of Windows, Word Perfect, Excel, Outlook, Clinical application programs, and the internet. Excellent written and verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
